Tektronix releases world's first digital jitter analysis module

Claimed to be the world's first digital jitter analysis module, the OTS9200 is aimed at reducing the time per test and accelerate the production of 10Gbps SONET/SDH equipment for metro networks.

The module is built with the company's Digital Phase Analysis (DPA) technology and delivers accurate optical jitter test results used in verifying product compliance. The module can be used with the OC-3/STM-1 (155Mbps) to the OC-192/STM-64 (10Gbps) standards.

Jitter is a small timing deviation that varies from one bit interval to the next. It increases the probability of errors in transmitted data within optical networks. The OTS9200 time stamps every edge of a SONET/SDH data stream and removes the error sources and variables associated with PLL circuitry found in current analog modules.

The OTS9200 performs both jitter generation and jitter tolerance tests, as well as eliminates the need for range switching and PLL settling time required with analog jitter analysis modules.
