The HardCopy program will be extended to the APEX II PLDs allowing designers to have an option of hard and masked reproduction of their original high-density PLD designs.

Created with a combination of proprietary silicon design and an automated conversion process, the HardCopy version of the APEX II devices preserves the performance and functionality of the original device while significantly reducing cost for volume production.

Processed at 0.13?m with an all-layer copper interconnect, the HardCopy devices provide a high-performance, power-efficient solution for high-volume applications. The APEX II HardCopy devices are being introduced following the APEX 20KE HardCopy program now in production.

The company claims that migration to the HardCopy version provides up to a 70 percent die size reduction, significantly lowering total costs. A complete conversion can take up to two weeks with the customer providing the final PLD design via the company's Quartus II design software netlist.

Functional HardCopy prototypes can be delivered in about five weeks after tape-out while high-volume production units take about eight weeks to deliver.

HardCopy devices are drop-in pin compatible with their PLD counterparts and are offered in the same FineLine BGA and standard BGA package that Altera supports for its APEX 20KE, APEX II and Excalibur product families.

The APEX II products that will be supported by the HardCopy program include the EP2A70, EP2A40 and EP2A25 devices.
