Designed for use in PDAs, digital still cameras, HDTV sets, and mobile phones, the M28W640C 64-bit Flash memory chip from STMicroelectronics features a 192-bit protection registera 64-bit segment programmed by the company and a 128-bit segment that is one-time programmable by the user.

Manufactured using a 0.15?m technology, the memory chip also contains a security block, parameter block 0, that can be permanently blocked by the user.

The M28W640 is organized as 4Mb-by-16 bits and operates at 3V. it is fully-compatible with the company's 16Mb M28W160 and 32Mb M28W320 memory devices. The 64-bit device also features an individual block-locking scheme that allows any block to be locked or unlocked with no latency, enabling instantaneous code and data protection.

Each block can sustain over 100,000 program/erase cycles and can be read, programmed or erased over a power-supply voltage range of 2.7V to 3.6V, operating at temperatures of -40C to 85C. The chip conforms to the Common Flash Interface standard and JEDEC command set.

The M28W640C is available in 80ns (3V to 3.6V) and 90ns (2.7V to 3.6V) access times and comes in TFBGA-48 (8-by-6 ball array) and TSOP-48 (12-by-20mm) packages.
