EM Micro RFID chip identifies 30 tags per second

EM Microelectronics-Marin SA's EM4055 CMOS IC for R/W RFID transponders features a data rate of up to 4Kbps and utilizes a fast-mode binary tree search anti-collision principle, enabling the chip to achieve tag identification speeds of up to 30 tags/s.

The chip typically operates at 125kHz and is based on the reader-talk-first (RTF) principle. It starts at power up in quiet mode waiting for an arbitration command from the basestation.

The EM4055 will transmit data to the reader by modulating the amplitude of the magnetic field, and receive data and commands by modulation, induced by the reader. Simple commands allow writing to EEPROM, updating the password, read a specific memory area, perform the anticollision procedure, and reset the logic.

The 1Kb EEPROM can be configured by the user, allowing word locking, read protected words, and read area output continuously at power-on. The memory can be secured by using the 32-bit password for all write and read protected operations.

Depending on the application, the chip can be configured in tag-talk-first mode then sending out continuously the Standard read memory area.
