The MAX3060E/MAX3061E/MAX3062E high speed RS-485/RS-232 transceivers from Maxim Integrated Products are packaged in an 8-pin SOT casing, enabling the devices to save 70 percent more board space over industry-standard SOPs.

The devices also feature true fail-safe and hot-swap circuitry to ensure reliable data transfer. The hot-swap circuitry eliminates data glitches during hot insertion by holding the RS-485/RS-422 lines in a high-impedance state for at least 105s during startup. The output drivers are held in the high-impedance state until the first transition occurs on driver enable.

True fail-safe circuitry guarantees a logic-high receiver output when the inputs are open, shorted, or connected to a terminated transmission line with all drivers disabled.

The MAX3060E operates up to 115kbps and features a slew-rate limiting circuitry to eliminate reflections and reduce EMI. The MAX3061E also features slew-rate limiting circuitry with data rates up to 500Kbps.

For data-intensive applications and applications that are not sensitive to EMI, the MAX3062E transmits data up to 20Mbps.

The ICs are also provided with ESD protection circuitry that is up to 115kV per human body model. They also feature a 1nA shutdown supply current, require a single 5V supply, and are rated for operation over the extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.20 (1000-up).
