The WCA11A signal analysis software package from Tektronix Inc. provides fault finding features and test automation to the company's WCA380 wireless communication analyzer to speed the design and development of 802.11a WLAN products.

"The new WCA11A package allows designers to solve tough troubleshooting and characterization problems rapidly, minimizing both time-to-market, and development cost of new 802.11a-compliant products," said Mark Kulper, GM of Tektronix's Wireless Product Line.

Claimed by the company to be the only 802.11b solution that has frequency-mask triggering capability, the WCA380/WCA11A package allows designers to find and characterize transient signals.

Frequency-mask triggering permits the user to set multiple frequency-dependent trigger thresholds, admitting chosen frequency bands while "masking" others. This allows the WCA380 to distinguish (and capture) transient events, such as turn-on spikes or interference from nearby transmitters, when they cross predefined amplitude threshold.

The WCA11A software package is a companion to the WCA380 device and resides on an external PC connected to the instrument's built-in Ethernet port. This pairing of measurement hardware and software provides complete analysis of 802.11a transmissions in the time, frequency, and modulation domains.

The software configures the analyzer, controls the measurement and stores the results on a local hard disk for analysis. The package carries out almost 20 different modulation and power measurements automatically.

Tektronix is an exhibitor at the IIC-China Fall 2002 and the 5th Annual Communications Design China & Exhibition to be held from September 19 to 20 in Guangzhou and from September 23 to 24 in Chengdu. Both eeEvents are organized by eMedia Asia Ltd, a Global Sources and CMP Media joint venture.
