Magis Networks Inc., a developer of chipsets for wireless communications, has announced that its Air5-based wireless video chipset has successfully completed certification testing at Japan's Telecom Engineering Center (TELEC), an association responsible for providing technical regulations conformity certification for wireless products distributed in Japan.

The architecture of Magis' Air5 technology encompasses IEEE 802.11a, HiperLAN2, and Wireless 1394 standards. Applications for Magis chipsets include digital cable set-tops and gateways, cable modems, satellite receivers, PCs, laptops and PDAs, and consumer electronics equipment such as TV receivers, personal video recorders, DVDs, Internet appliances, and gaming consoles.

Magis' Air5-based chipset is said to be the first 5GHz wireless networking product capable of supporting HDTV to receive approval from the Japanese agency.

"Magis is poised to enter the Japanese market with fully-compliant chipsets that enable the wireless delivery of video applications, along with audio and TCP/IP data," said Clarence Bruckner, president and CEO of Magis. "This is a significant milestone for Magis and our Japanese-based consumer electronics customers."
