Ericsson one-eighth bricks fit quarter-brick format

Ericsson Power Modules has announced the availability of the PKB series of one-eighth brick dc/dc power modules that are pin-compatible with industry-standard quarter brick format and are suitable for use in on-board distributed power architectures in wireless basestations, inter-networking and other telecom applications.

The modules measure 19-by-57.9-by-7.6mm and provide up to 20A at 3.3Vdc with an efficiency of up to 90 percent at full-load. They have a non-baseplated construction to facilitate close board spacing but a baseplated version is available for applications with limited airflow or high ambient temperatures.

The PKB series presently comprises 1.8V/25A, 3.3V/20A, 5V/12A, and 12V/5.3A devices, all of which are available for sampling now. Additional 2.5V/22A, 1.5V/25A and 1.2V/28A versions are due to be introduced in Q1 of 2003. All have through-hole pinning for transferring heat to the PCB.

Typical output ripple is from 60mVpp (3.3V) to 150mVpp (1.8V). Dynamic response for the 12V module is typically 1505S/150mV peak. The modules have an isolation of up to 2.5kVdc and operate with a maximum PCB temperature of 1200C. MTBF is >2 million hours at 850C.
