Ericsson Power Modules has released the PKD 4510 ASI lead-free dc/dc converter that has an input voltage range of 36V to 75V and delivers up to 15A at 3.3V.

The device is the first of the company's upgraded PKD series, which will eventually include 1V/20A, 1.2V/20A, 1.5V/20A, 1.8V/20A, 2.5V/15A, and 5V/10A versions.

The surface-mount device occupies a footprint of 46-by-50mm and has a profile of 7.5mm, allowing close spacing, down to 15mm, of PCBs to minimize system size. It is also designed for lead-free manufacturing processes and can withstand reflow soldering at temperature up to 260C.

The upgraded dc/dc converter uses ceramic substrate and features thermal design improvements. It also uses new MOSFET technology to decrease power losses and increase efficiency to 91 percent (full load). No heatsink is required and the lead-frame design ensures reliable connection to the PCB and operation over a wide temperature range.

The PKD 4510 ASI has 1.5kV I/O isolation and features 5.1 million hours of MTBF. It is suited for distributed power architectures in a wide range of telecom and datacom applications.
