Wind River Systems, a provider of embedded software and services, has joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). Wind River will also be participating in the lab's Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) Working Group to advance support for the telecom and networking markets.

OSDL is a global consortium of customers and technology companies dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux. OSDL provides Linux expertise and computing and test facilities in the U.S. and Japan available to developers around the world. The consortium's members are Alcatel, Cisco, Dell, Ericsson, Fujitsu, HP, Hitachi, IBM, among others.

"Many of our network infrastructure customers use Wind River's VxWorks operating system along with Linux," said Tony Tryba, VP and general manager of market divisions for Wind River. "Wind River is committed to working with OSDL in developing the Carrier Grade Linux specification and accelerating its adoption in the telecommunications industry."
