Parvus Corp. has launched its Sonic Audio SP, a low-cost, PC/104 form-factor sound card for embedded computer systems that provides two supplemental serial ports and an onboard parallel port.

Fully compatible with Sound Blaster Pro and Microsoft Windows audio standards, the plug-and-play audio card is capable of recording, synthesizing, compressing, storing, and playing back voice, sound and music.

Based around ESS Technology's AudioDrive ES1869F chip, the new sound card offers a 7-channel mixer and powerful 2W/per channel output to record, compress and play back CD quality output with programmable sampling frequencies of 4kHz up to 48kHz.

Featuring four audio inputs and two outputs (one is amplified for driving 8-ohm load), the product supports full-duplex operation for simultaneous recording and playback using two DMA channels and features a 20-voice OPL3 Superset ESFM Music-Synthesizer.

Pricing is $104 each in volume orders of 100+ units.
