Xilinx Inc. released last week (May 19) its latest digital signal processing (DSP) intellectual property (IP) library based on its virtex-4 and spartan-3e fpgas.

Updates to the library include a suite of floating-point operators, a DVB FEC encoder core and key enhancements to existing cores, Xilinx said, including full support for the latest ISE 7.1i development tool and greater optimization for performance, silicon utilization or both. Xilinx has made the new DSP library and other IP cores in the latest release available on the company's website.

In a statement issued last week, Chris Dick, chief DSP scientist at Xilinx, said the new floating-point operator library supports customers developing advanced communication systems in broadband, 4G, beyond 3G and Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) "Parallel configurations of the new operators in our Virtex-4 device technology delivers the high-performance required in advanced wireless systems in a cost effective manner," he said.

All cores are available now from Xilinx. The floating-point operator is included with the latest version of the Xilinx Core Generator system. The floating-point operator core is priced at $995, but Xilinx said that customers could use it at no cost for a limited time.

The DVB-SC FEC encoder core is available as separately licensed parameterized netlists, the company said. The cost of this license is $1,000.
