x2 active frequency multipliers

Hittite Microwave Corp. introduced two low noise GaAs MMIC x2 active frequency multipliers that are designed for LO multiplier chains in microwave and VSAT radios.

When driven with a 0 signal, the HMC448LC3B x2 multiplier provides 11dBm of typical output power and single sideband (SSB) phase noise of -135dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset from the carrier. The 20GHz to 25GHz output frequency range of the HMC448LC3B makes it a suitable solution for use in the generation of a half rate clock for 40Gbps systems, or as part of a multiplier chain to generate a full rate 40Gbps clock.

The HMC449LC3B has an output frequency range of 27GHz to 31GHz, providing 9dBm of typical output power from a 0 input signal. It features additive phase noise of -132dBm/Hz at 100KHz offset from the carrier.

The HMC448LC3B and HMC449LC3B accept a wide input power range of -4dBm to 6dBm, and both operate from a single 5Vdc supply consuming 50mA of current. These new broadband multipliers are housed in RoHS-compliant, 3-by-3mm leadless surface mount packages and are available from stock.
