ON Semi announces smallest audio analog switches

ON Semiconductor has introduced three new low resistance analog switches for portable and wireless audio applications. Offered in Pb-free thin QFN/thin DFN packages that utilize between 1.2mm2 and 4.7mm2 of board space, these 6-pin, 10-pin and 16-pin devices are said to be the industry's smallest audio analog switches.

"Customers with space constrained portable applications prefer higher performance functions in smaller footprint packages" said Dan Huettl, director of ON Semi's logic and analog switch business unit. "Our new analog switches directly address our customers' needs. The response has been extremely positive. Some customers have already designed the parts into their latest cell phones and are ramping up production."

The NLAS3799MNR2G, NLAS5223MNR2G and NLAS5123MNR2G analog switches are designed for high-current switching of an audio signal in portable and wireless applications with low operating voltages. These devices are suitable for higher power audio applications that require low on-resistance (Ron) for improved power efficiency. Target applications include cellphones, PDAs and MP3 players.

The NLAS3799MNR2G is a low voltage, ultra low Ron, dual double-pole, double-throw switch. This product achieves total harmonic distortion of 0.11 percent and low Ron of 0.35 ohm. In addition, this analog switch (low voltage logic level version) can operate with a 1.8V input swing. This part is available in a Pb-free 16-lead thin QFN that measures 2.6-by-1.8-by-0.75mm and is said to utilize 48 percent less board space than competitor products. This product is priced at 97 cents per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5223MNR2G is a low voltage, ultra low Ron, dual single-pole double-throw switch (SPDT). This analog switch has enhanced lower Ron performance and has a 70 percent smaller footprint than the NLAS4684MNR2G. It features a total harmonic distortion of 0.12 percent and low Ron of 0.35 ohm. In addition, the low voltage logic level version of the NLAS5223LMNR2G can operate with a 1.8V input swing. This part comes in a Pb-free, 10-lead, thin QFN that measures 1.4-by-1.8-by-0.75mm. It is priced at 67 cents per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5123MNR2G is a 1-ohm Ron, single SPDT analog switch with 0.012 percent total harmonic distortion and break before make capability. It is available in a Pb-free, 6-lead, thin DFN that measures 1.2-by-1-by-0.75mm and is said to utilize 53 percent less board space than competitor products. This device is priced at 56 cents each in 10,000-unit quantities.
