Anadigics Inc. introduced its third generation High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP3) wideband CDMA (WCDMA) power amplifiers (PAs). These WCDMA PAs tout to offer the industry's lowest power consumption and provide full compliance with High Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) requirements, enabling ultra-fast multimedia access, while extending battery life. According to the company, the complete family of HELP3 WCDMA PAs has been optimized for power and space sensitive 3G devices, including handsets, smart phones, data cards and embedded notebook applications.

The HELP3 PAs use Anadigics' exclusive InGaP-Plus technology, which integrates bipolar and field-effect transistor (FET) devices on the same InGaP GaAs die. Through selectable bias modes, explained the company, the HELP3 PAs achieve optimal efficiency across the low-range and mid-range output power levels. The PAs reduce average current consumption by 75 percent, compared with a conventional power amplifier. This represents an additional 50 percent average current consumption savings compared with the first generation HELP WCDMA PAs. Anadigics added that the HELP3 PAs provide exceptionally low quiescent currents of 7mA without an external DC/DC converter. These devices also incorporate a built-in reference voltage generator eliminating the need for external regulators.

The new RoHS-compliant PAs are offered in 4-by-4-by-1mm modules. The AWT6273, AWT6278 and AWT6279 amps are priced at $2.58 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples are already available.
