Providing a consumer electronic control (CEC) test approach, ranging from development through pre-compliance testing, video test maker Quantum Data now has a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) CEC development and compliance test suite for its existing 882CA video test instruments.

CEC is an HDMI option that provides automatic power-on, automatic signal routing, and single-point remote control for CEC-enabled products. This latest test suite from Quantum can help you integrate CEC into your own product, performing all CEC-related tests found in the HDMI Compliance Test Specification.

The HDMI CEC Development and Compliance Test Suite includes emulated CEC devices, as well as an Interactive Troubleshooting Environment (ITE) and an ACA (Auxiliary Channel Analyzer).

It also includes a CTE (Procedural Compliance Test Environment), a Test Management Environment (TME), and test point adapters (TPAs).

Testing interoperability
The company's 882CA test instrument has three CEC devices. Manufacturers of DTVs, STBs, DVD players, A/V receivers, recording devices and repeaters can configure these to test a product's ability to interoperate with other CEC-enabled products.

The ITE, for example, lets you configure your CEC devices, and send messages and faults, so that both nominal and stressful conditions can be generated. For its part, the ACA provides monitoring and analysis of all auxiliary channels. This lets you view and save bus trafficright down to the bit, block and frame.

What's more, the ACA and ITE complement each other. The ITE can initiate specific CEC bus transactions, while the ACA monitors what goes on, so that you can locate and document CEC protocol errors.

The CTE portion addresses CEC product compliance testing. The CTE compiles test procedures, conducts tests, logs results, and creates summary HTML reports.

The TME is a graphical environment that houses all the tests. It runs on your PC, and communicates with the 882CA box using Ethernet. Meanwhile, the TPA connect test equipment to the product-under-test. The TPAs also provide standard loads (as needed) during CEC compliance tests.

Making the spec
In the development of this product, Quantum Data worked closely with HDMI Licensing LLC as it created the CEC Compliance Test Spec. The spec identifies the 882CA test instrument, TME software and TPAs as the recommended CEC compliance test tools.
