National's new operational amplifiers

National Semiconductor Corp. announced nine single, dual and quad operational amplifiers (op amps) built on its proprietary VIP50 BiCMOS process technology. The products aim to improve accuracy, power consumption and voltage noise for industrial, medical and automotive applications, as well as portable applications.

The LMV792 series features low noise of 5.8nV/sqrt Hz and low input bias currents of 100fA across a temperature range from -40C to 125C. In addition, the LPV531 micropower op amp has adjustable gain-bandwidth control and a power-level adjust feature controlled with only one external resistor. The LPV531's performance alternates from standby to full-power mode by varying the bias voltage on this same external resistor.

National also is expanding its VIP50 portfolio with four new products, adding the LMP7704, LMP7712, LMP7715 and LMP7716 single precision amplifiers. The new amplifiers provide sub-220?V of input offset with guaranteed input bias of less than 50pA, and up to 12V operation.

The LMP7712 dual amplifier is said to offer low current (50fA) metal oxide silicon inputs while still providing low-noise (less than 6nV/sqrt Hz) performance. Thin-film resistors and transistor pairs are used to guarantee input offset errors of less than 180?V, increase common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR of 100dB) and increase power supply rejection ratio (PSRR of 100dB) performance, while maintaining a low offset voltage drift (TCVos) of 1.75?V/C over the -40C to 125C temperature range, said the company.

The LMP7704 quad precision amplifier operates from 2.7V to 12V supply voltages and has rail-to-rail CMOS inputs with input-bias currents of 200fA. Trim and design techniques are said to eliminate the offset glitch associated with conventional CMOS rail-to-rail input amplifiers, improving the input offset voltage of less than 220?V across the common-mode voltage range (0 to 12V). The op amp also uses a patented correction technique to reduce the temperature coefficient of the offset voltage that is said to be commonly found in CMOS precision amplifiers. This product is available in a 14-lead TSSOP package.

The LMV792, LMV796 and LMV797 CMOS input, dual operational amplifiers offer 5.8nV/sqrt Hz of flat band noise. They have a low offset voltage of less than 1.35 mV and low temperature coefficient of less than 1.8?V/C. The LMV792 offers a shutdown feature that is said to reduce power consumption to less than 1?A when in idle mode. The LMV792 is available in a 10-lead MSOP package. The LMV796 and LMV797, offered in five-lead SOT23 and eight-lead MSOP packages, target applications where system shutdown replaces localized shutdown requirements.

The LMV654 is said to provide 50 percent power savings over previous-generation operational amplifiers. It consumes 400?A while maintaining a 12MHz unity-gain bandwidth and a low input referred noise voltage of 17nV/sqrt Hz. The amp provides an input offset voltage of less than 1.5mV, 100dB CMRR and 95dB PSRR. The LMV654 is offered in a 14-lead TSSOP package.

The products are currently available with prices ranging from 75 cents to $2.49 in 1,000-unit quantities.
