Analogic Tech touts the AAT1230's high transient responsei.e., the ability to accommodate a pulsing load profile for OLEDsas leading edge. It's also suited to CCD and LCD bias circuitry, and is for general use within mobile handsets, MP3 players, digital still cameras and PDAs.

In addition to the advantage it claims in hysteretic control with stability that's guaranteed throughout its operating range, the device, working from a 2.7V to 5.5V input for use with single cell Li-ion batteries, offers custom brightness control via an S2Cwire 16-step serial interface that also serves as an optional control for setting output voltage.

The device's architecture includes a built-in switch (integrated MOSFET device) to disconnect the load (billed as a true load disconnect) when it's not in service (EN/SET line is low). Shutdown current is less than 1A under such conditions.

Operating at 2MHz, the device requires few external components. No external components are required for compensation networks. Overall operating efficiency is up to 85 percent. Output voltage is set by activating one of two reference levels (FB1 or FB2 lines) through the SEL logic pin. Alternatively, the S2C interface allows dynamic programmability of the output voltage. Other features include integrated soft-start, cycle-by-cycle current limiting and short-circuit and over-temperature protection.
