Clock module performs in high temperatures

Epson Toyocom Corp. has announced the RA-8565SA real-time clock module with a built-in crystal unit for automotive and industrial machinery applications. The new clock module is touted to be the first of its kind to operate in temperatures up to 125C.

In addition to automotive applications, factory and household equipment installed outdoors require devices that deliver stable long-term performance and resistance to severe temperature fluctuations.

Epson Toyocom said that it developed modules incorporating crystal units and clock control circuits to meet these demands. The RA-8565SA module combines a new tuning-fork crystal unit for high-temperature applications and a new IC. The module operates over a temperature range of -40C to 125C.

The module also uses an I2C interface to control reading and writing calendar and other data.

Shipments will begin July 2006.
