ITT Electronic Components' Cm3 connector

ITT Electronic Components' Cm3 connector for small and medium servomotors offers simplified internal wiring and replaces two bulkier conventional circular connectors. The key benefit: it reduces servomotor mating to four steps.

The company claims the low-profile Cm3 connector significantly lower installation cost and is 50 percent smaller and lighter than conventional circular connector designs. The connector is completely sealed and shielded for high reliability and its simple harnessing is said to reduce assembly and installation time in motor applications.

Designed for motors with a flange size of 100-by-100mm or less, the Cm3 series connectors provide a high degree of vibration and shock resistance, the company said. The connectors feature IP67 sealing, and a housing that contains a single power insulator and three feedback insulators, each with six signal contacts, separated by metal shielded walls. It also includes two sealed entries for power and feedback cables and a first-make/last-break power ground contact electrically linked to the shell.

The Cm3 connector meets all requirements for DIN EN61984 safety compliance and has a 48V signal rating, and an operating voltage of up to 630V. The current ratings are 2A for signal and 18A for power. For a rugged design, the connector is constructed of a zinc die cast shell, Fluor rubber sealing parts, high-temperature insulator material and high-quality contacts, ITT said.

Servomotor applications include machine tools, packaging, factory automation, material handling, printing, food packaging, assembly lines, motion control, marking and labeling, robotics, production machines and laser trimming systems. ITT is currently developing larger and smaller versions of the Cm3 connectors to meet a wider range of servomotor applications.

Pricing for the Cm3 connector is around $10 to $15 per unit in quantities of 10,000 pieces or higher. The Cm3 is also available with high-vibration resistant socket contacts in unit prices ranging from $15 to $20 for similar volumes. Lead times start at three weeks.
