Radio network analyzers can scan several networks in parallel

Rohde & Schwarz developed the new radio network analyzers R&S TSML-x in addition to its universal radio network analyzer R&S TSMU. The compact R&S TSML analyzers are suitable for use in different networks irrespective of the technology employed as well as for broadband applications in the frequency range from 80MHz up to 4GHz.

Members of the R&S TSML-x family are capable of scanning several networks in parallel, since they are not limited to a specific SIM card or the characteristics of a specific mobile phone. The interface via which users can control their R&S TSML-x analyzers and read results comes with a description and a demo application. This enables the use of customized software, opening up additional applications and providing maximum flexibility, said the press release. The instruments can also be run with the R&S ROMES software established on the market.

The R&S TSML-CW analyzer for RF power measurements performs radio-network-independent CW and RF level measurements on modulated and unmodulated carrierstriggered by time or distance pulses. The 80MHz to 4GHz frequency range ensures high flexibility. Whether broadband, TV bands, WiMAX, TETRA, GSM (all bands) or WCDMA (bands I to IX), the R&S TSML CW covers all desired bands and technologies. The R&S TSML-CW features a measurement rate of 20 channels/s (GSM) and a resolution of 10cm at 180km/h (GSM R).

The R&S TSML-G GSM network scanner decodes system information such as CI, MNC, LAC, MCC and BSIC for all GSM bands. This instrument delivers a measurement rate of 80 channels/s, including demodulation and decoding. Rohde & Schwarz added that this makes the R&S TSML G an ideal solution for the fast optimization of GSM, GPRS and EDGE networks.

The R&S TSML-C and R&S TSML-W PN scanners measure the basic RF parameters of CDMA2000 (R&S TSML-C) and WCDMA networks (R&S TSML W). The user can automatically analyze the RF power, timing and quality parameters of all PN codes of the signal. Additionally, the R&S TSML-C frequency range covers all CDMA2000 bands; plus, it offers a measurement rate of 5Hz. The measurement rate of the R&S TSML-W is 10Hz. Both analyzers perform parallel measurements on six carriers and can therefore be used for benchmark applications. Moreover, both analyzers are equipped with 512 rake receivers.

All analyzers of the R&S TSML-x family are lightweight (1.5 kg) and compact. These instruments can also be integrated into a 19-inch rack. Their 8W power consumption makes them suitable for mobile use. An IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface enables high-speed data transfer to the PC. The analyzers also feature a VICOM user interface, via which customized software solutions can be implemented.
