RF switch promises superior linearity performance

RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD) has announced its newest RF switchesthe RF1200 and RF1450. These devices use the company's GaAs manufacturing capability and leverage the switch technology developed for use in RFMD's transmit modules.

The new high-performance switches enable front-end applications in multiple market segments, including multimode GSM/W-CDMA cellular handsets, antenna tuners, IEEE802.11a/b/g WLAN and cellular infrastructure.

Complex front-end apps
"Our first two RF switch product offeringsthe RF1200 and RF1450enable complex front-end applications of feature-rich multimode handsets, improve overall RF system performance and help enable new architectures," said Bob Bruggeworth, president and CEO of RFMD.

The RF1200 is an spdt high-power switch that meets all linearity requirements for W-CDMA and features low insertion loss, low control voltage and very good harmonic characteristics. It is fabricated with 0.5?m GaAs pHEMT process and is packaged in a very compact 2-by-2mm, 6-pin, leadless QFN package.

Superior linearity
The RF1450 is a sp4t high-power switch specifically designed to provide superior linearity performance for multimode W-CDMA applications. The RF1450 includes integrated decoding logic, allowing just two control lines needed for switch control. It is packaged in a compact 3-by-3-by-0.6mm, 16-pin, leadless QFN package.

The RF1200 and RF1450 RF switches are currently in production to initial customers at a price of 59 cents for the RF1200 and $1.19 for the RF1450, both in 10,000-unit quantities.
