Industry leaders will discuss market expansion opportunities and new trends for the LCD monitor segment at the 9th DisplaySearch U.S. Flat Panel Display (FPD) Conference in San Diego next week (March 6-8).

With the consumer market for PC/CE products on the rise, a new replacement cycle for PC/IT gadgets emerging with the introduction of Windows Vista and growth in emerging markets for IT-related technologies, the global market for flat-panel LCD monitors continues to grow to an all-time high of $36 billion, and is moving beyond the CRT vs. LCD debate to one of square LCD vs. wide-aspect ratio LCD.

The conference will have a session that will touch on this transition. According to DisplaySearch, the desktop display market already had three replacement cycles#&8212;from monochrome CRTs to color CRTs, from curved-faced CRTs to flat-faced CRTs and from CRTs to LCDs.

The timing for the fourth segment transition will be deliberated by industry leaders in the session Managing the Next Desktop Monitor Replacement Cycle. Executives from HP, Dell and Samsung will share their views on the global LCD monitor market.

Industry veteran John Morriss, VP and general manager of HP's Global Displays Business Unit will provide insights regarding the display needs of office workers and consumers around the world. Dell's corporate director of Displays Marketing, Phil Ventimiglia, will present the viewpoints of their customers about adoption plans for wide displays.

David Nichols, director of display marketing at Samsung Electronics America, will provide his perspective on the role of stand-alone vendors during major industry transition periods. To offer an additional third party perspective for the session is Clare Hobby, general manager of TCO Development North America. He will present TCO's latest findings on display technologies in the work environment such as the ergonomic trend on the 'GlareType' display, which has become popular in the consumer market.
