One RF Technology has introduced an SoC-based Zigbee solution for building automation and wireless sensor networks applications. The miniature Zigbee module, dubbed ?Tiny, is based on the Texas Instruments CC2430 SoC.

The ?Tiny Zigbee module occupies only 25-by-15mm with a height of about 3mm. Key specifications include 2mW output power, and -94dBm sensitivity. It consumes less than 2?A on stand-by. The device will be available with or without an integrated antenna.

The ?Tiny will also be available as a small-size USB dongle. The USB dongle, 58-by-20-by-22mm in size, is made of clear polycarbonate. Including drivers for Windows 98SE/2000/XP and communicating through a virtual com port, the ?Tiny USB dongle can be easily connected to a PDA through USB 1.1/USB 2.0, thereby offering the possibility for the development of mobile Zigbee solutions such as for automated meter reading, said the company.

The ?Tiny Zigbee module will also be available on the license-free 2400-2483.5MHz frequency range with the standard in-house firmware.

The solution will be available Q3 2007. A Zigbee Certified Platform based on the company's current generation TinyOne Zigbee module, including an in-house Zigbee 2006 stack, is already available for purchase.
