MicroTCA power modules figure in expanded D-sub fam

FCI S.A. now offers D-subminiature input connectors for power modules used in MicroTCA shelves.

Each power contact provides 24A current-carrying capacity. The 7W2 shielded connectors enable -48V or -60Vdc input connections. They are designed to fit the power module faceplate on the front side of a power module made in accordance with the MicroTCA specification.

The board-mount connector options are available as a single port or as a dual-stacked configuration for redundant input feeds. They offer a compact footprint to provide more space on the board for routing supplementary traces or additional components, said FCI. The product offering also includes through-mount options suitable for wave soldering or pin-in-paste (PIP) reflow soldering. PIP is a processing technology that the French firm said can eliminate the need for a separate wave soldering operation in the process and lower applied costs.

Users can also choose between a cable connector with two standard solder bucket signal contacts or a version with a preinstalled shunt on the signal contacts used for first mate, last break functionality. Power contacts are offered in both solder bucket and crimp versions for cable termination.

All MicroTCA power module input connectors are RoHS-compliant.

The 24V/49A version will be available in the second half of the year. The uTCA high power I/O connector pricing ranges from $2 to $10, and will be available in six weeks.
