Asahi Kasei EMD Corp. (EMD) unveils the AK4645, an ultramini stereo codec with integrated 70mW high-power headphone amplifier, four stereo analog input selector and PLL for cellphone, smart phone and PMP applications. AK4645 is the newest addition to the company's Audio2go range of AKM products.

The CPU performance on the codec is well-suited for cellphones with music players. And now, AK4645 introduces multiple new advances to the AK464X codec series, including a 1.6V low-voltage digital interface for easy connection to a CPU. Another enhancements is an expansion of the integrated PLL reference clock into multiple system clocks, such as the TCXO in cell phones, so that the AK4645 can be easily synchronized with the CPU. The new series also offers upgrading of the mixing source for the recording and player paths to a four-stereo analog input selector, so that various signal sources can be selected without the need for an external switch.

AK4645 features EMD's advanced ALC circuit allowing automatic level adjustment of the music source used for ring tones. Also, a stereo emphasis circuit provides enhancement of stereo performance, giving a wider sound field even with the closely spaced small speakers which are common on today's cell phones. Finally, control of all functions including a comprehensive Power Management facility, is achieved by a selectable I?C three-wire bus.

The AK4645 is available in an ultraminiature 32-pin QFN (4-by-4mm) package. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
