Winbond tips new parallel flash memory devices

Winbond Electronics Corp. has added new products to its W19B family with the introduction of 16-, 32- and 64Mbit parallel flash memory devices, extending flash memory applications to the areas of consumer electronics and networking.

Manufactured using WinStack technology, the 16Mbit W19B160B and 32Mbit W19B320B devices feature a Boot Block and Single Bank Architecture and support x8/x16 data widths. Random access speed can reach 70ns at operating voltages of 2.7-3.6V. Major features include erase Suspend/Erase resume, Top or Bottom Boot Block, Write-Protection and Hardware Reset.

The new devices are designed for DVD players and recorders, MP3 players, printers, networking, STBs, projectors, automotive applications, consumer electronics, gaming devices and mobile devices. Moreover, the 32Mbit W19B320B, which has a Boot Block (supports page mode) and Flexible Bank Architecture, offers a security sector to protect critical code for customers.

The 64Mbit W19B640C supports all W19B320B features and also includes 20ns page mode access speed and Flexible Bank architecture, for simultaneous read/write operation. It is well suited for consumer applications such as DSC, DVD recorder, STB (DVB-C), high-end networking applications and low-price handsets. All W19B family package/pinouts and command sets are JEDEC standard compatible.

W19B160B 4 8-pin TSOP samples are now available with production quantities to be available in August.

Samples housed in W19B320B 48-pin TSOP and 48-ball TFBGA will be available in September and October. The 48-ball TFBGA samples along with W19B640C 48-pin TSOP samples will be available in Q4. The 48-ball TFBGA samples will be available in Q1 2008.
