Targeting scalable protection for networks and data centers, Falcon Electric Inc. has introduced a series of double-conversion on-line UPS.

The new models offer 8kVA and 10kVA performance in the same small footprint as the FN series 6kVA unit, and expands the FN Series UPS Plus family's range up to 40kVA.

The parallel or N+1 redundant UPSes are designed to meet the demands of IT infrastructures with a scalable platform and N+1 redundancy. The new FN Series models provide a faster processor using DSP technology, which is said to improve performance, capability and reliability.

An FN system can be configured using individual 8kVA and 10kVA models, providing up to 40kVA capacity or up to 30kVA with N+1 redundancy. This approach is said to eliminate the need for additional cabinets to house control, power and battery modules. In addition, the FN models can be easily programmed by the user for use as a 50Hz or 60Hz frequency converter, which makes them suitable for worldwide power applications.

The FN Series also offers hot-swappable, user-replaceable batteries, optional battery packs and chargers. Other features include a wide input voltage range, a Remote Emergency Power Off interface and an LCD display with advanced monitoring for UPS management.

The system's true regenerative (double-conversion) on-line technology is said to provide the highest level of protection against a wide spectrum of power problems including blackouts, brownouts, surges and transients. The input power factor correction circuitry reduces harmonics that can adversely affect sensitive computers and electronic equipment.

Falcon's UPSilon computer shutdown and management software supports all Windows platforms including Vista, as well as Novell NetWare 5 & 6, LINUX and FreeBSD. UPSilon for UNIX is available for purchase and supports the most popular UNIX platform and OS versions.

For remote management, users may purchase an optional SNMP/HTTP agent board that installs directly inside the UPS and provides a TCP-IP addressable, 10/100 Ethernet port. Unlimited server shutdown client software licensing is provided at no additional cost.

Available now, the FN Series UPS Plus models meet UL and cUL standards and meet FCC Class A requirements.
