A family of standard- and high-definition video filters has been launched by Maxim Integrated Products for digital-video applications in STBs, personal video recorders, and TVs.

The devices provide stopband attenuation, gain matching, and ESD protection. They integrate filters that provide exceptional time-domain response with low overshoot. Additionally, they integrate input clamps, output buffers, and 12kV ESD protection to reduce cost, improve reliability, and save space.

Supported specs
The MAX11500 is a 6th-order 33MHz HD filter that accommodates component video (YPbPr and RGB) and supports HD (1,080i/720p). The MAX11501/MAX11502/MAX11504/MAX11505 are 5th-order SD filters that accommodate component video (YPbPr, RGB, and S-video or Y/C) and composite video (CVBS) and support SD (NTSC/PAL) scanning standards.

The MAX11501/MAX11504 offer a flat passband with an 8.6MHz bandwidth, while the MAX11502/MAX11505 provide a high-frequency boost passband with an 8.9MHz bandwidth to compensate for DAC rolloff.

Ideally suited for DAC-output reconstruction, each channel combines a filter and a video buffer for driving a standard 150? video load (MAX11500) or two standard 150? video loads with a 2Vp-p signal. All filters provide inputs that can be either AC- or DC-coupled. They can also drive an AC-coupled load if required, or a DC-coupled load, which eliminates the need for large (220?F to 1000?F) AC-coupling capacitors and simplifies video filtering in STB, PVR, and HDTV applications. To further save space and improve reliability, these devices integrate three transparent clamps at the inputs and 12kV ESD protection at the outputs.

Packaging options
The MAX11500 and MAX11501/MAX11502 are offered in an 8-pin SO package that is fully specified over the 0 to +85C upper-commercial temperature range. The MAX11504/MAX11505 are offered in a 10-pin microMAX package that is fully specified over the 0 to +70C commercial temperature range. Prices start at 60 cents for the MAX11500, 55 cents for the MAX11501/MAX11502, and 66 cents for the MAX11504/MAX11505 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits and samples are available to speed designs.
