Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. has inked an agreement with Intel Corp. to provide wireless modules for use in mobile devices, according to a Korea.net report.

Under the agreement, Samsung Electro will supply various modules, including WiMAX and WiBro modules, for Intel's ultra-mobile PCs and other mobile Internet devices starting Q3. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Samsung Electro has completed development of the WiMAX and WiBro modules last year, which allow access to high-speed Internet even when users are in motion. WiMAX is the wireless Internet technology developed by Intel while WiBro is an upgraded version of the technology developed by Korean telecom firms.

Samsung Electronics partnered with Sprint Nextel, Motorola Inc. and Intel in August 2006 on the development and commercialization of WiBro in the United States. The South Korean conglomerate expects the number of WiBro network users in the United States will exceed 100 million this year and grow to 140 million and 170 million by 2009 and 2010, respectively.
