Advanced capacitor handles high DC filtering

Cornell Dubilier Electronics has launched its Type 947C high current, medium-power film capacitor for DC filtering to 1200Vdc. The capacitor series is for IGBT power filtering and DC-link inverter applications that need lower bus capacitance and high ripple current.

The DC link capacitors provide both bulk energy storage and ripple current filtering. Because of its higher voltage and current handling, these capacitors can be used to replace aluminum electrolytic capacitors in DC-link inverter applications (e.g. wind energy, solar and fuel cells) that typically require several aluminum capacitors across the bus to handle the ripple current requirements.

With advanced segmented metalized polypropylene film technology, the Type 947C capacitor handles currents up to 72A at frequencies up to 20KHz, and it is rated for ripple currents up to a 100KHz and peak voltages up to 1800V. Capacitance values range up to 730?F at 800V, 470 ?F at 1000V and 320?F at 1200V. The compact case is a 90mm aluminum cylinder electrically isolated from the capacitor, which is available in lengths of 97mm, 120mm, 145mm and 170mm with a choice of M5 threaded insert terminals or M8 threaded stud terminals on the top, and an optional M12 mounting stud on the bottom.
