ACPM-73x power amps

Avago Technologies has launched five new CoolPAM power amplifiers (PAs) for UMTS band handsets and datacard applications. The new ACPM-73x2 series of PAs are based on Avago's fifth generation CoolPAM circuit technology, which provides one of the longest talk times among existing PAs with very low quiescent current at about 3mA.

The ACPM-73x2 PAs are fully matched 10-pin surface mount modules designed for UMTS Bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8, and meet a wide range of stringent UMTS linearity requirements and output power ranges. Moreover, the Pb-free and RoHS-compliant 4mm x 4mm form factor package is self-contained and incorporates 50? input and output matching networks. These PAs comply with new talk time requirements defined by most major global mobile carriers.

The CoolPAM circuit technology incorporated in these new PAs from Avago supports three power modes: bypass, mid-, and high-power modes. CoolPAM is a stage bypass technology which enhances power added efficiency (PAE) at low and medium power ranges. An active bypass feature has been added to these PAs to enhance PAE further at low output range which helps to extend talk time.

The new power amps were manufactured on advanced InGaP hetero-junction bipolar transistor monolithic microwave IC technology for temperature stability and ruggedness. The devices pack 3-mode power control with Vbp and Vmode and provides high efficiency at maximum output power.

Avago's ACPM-73x2 PAs are available in the following UMTS bandwidths and linearity output power requirements:

??Band 1: ACPM-7382 (up to 28.25dBm)
??Band 2: ACPM-7332 (up to 29.00dBm)
??Band 4: ACPM-7392 (up to 28.40dBm)
??Band 5: ACPM-7312 (up to 28.25dBm)
??Band 8: ACPM-7372 (up to 28.75dBm)
