Bi-stable LCD uses 99 percent less power than traditional LCDs

Lumex launched the InfoVue Bi-Stable family of display featuring a low-power LCD solution suitable for a wide range of applications where display information is not changed more than a few times a day. In some applications, the Lumex InfoVue Bi-Stable LCD requires up to 99 percent less energy consumption than traditional LCD technologies.

Traditional LCD modules require 25mW to 50mW of constant power to display even a static or unchanging image while Lumex ?s Bi-Stable LCDs can display the same image for over a year after power has been turned off with a one time 2s to 5s burst of 10mW of power.

This new technology permits users to readily update display information while also generating cost or manpower savings. Currently compatible with various LCD configurations, the bi-stable technology may be used in place of a standard LCD printed displays where information changes less frequently. These applications may include: retail displays, thermostat-related industrial controls and security/hospital displays.

he InfoVue Bi-Stable LCD features an innovative cholesteric solution in place of the traditional twisted

nematic liquid crystal solution. This feature allows the LCD to provide consistent performance with extremely low energy requirements. These Bi-Stable LCDs signify a low-energy alternative to the economic and environmental costs of repeatedly printing variable displays.

The technology also comes with a complimentary integration support. Lumex technical design specialists can integrate the bi-stable technology with LEDs, light pipes, connectors and other components to render solutions that maximize performance and efficiency for each individual application.

Pricing and availability: RoHs compliant InfoVue Bi-Stable LCDs are offered in custom sizes ranging from 1?4in to 9.5in. Samples are 2.8in with a 128x64p resolution. The displays are available in black-on-yellow or blue-on-white color formats. Pricing for 2.8in is approximately $10 to $13 per unit in production quantities, depending on size and quantity ordered. Complete custom order lead time ranges from 14 to 16 weeks.
