Test service demand grows due to wireless

Keywords:LTE? WiMAX?

The demand for test services in the wireless network market has outstripped that of the wireline sector due to the constant stream of new technologies sprouting as well as the numerous problems encountered in wireless networks. The conclusion was the result of an analysis of network equipment manufacturers (NEMs), service providers (SPs) and enterprises by Frost & Sullivan

The test services market earned some $472.2 million in revenues in 2009 and is expected to reach $677.9 million in 2015, Frost & Sullivan said. "SPs opine that the demand for test services in wireless technologies is greater than that of wireline technologies, due to their complexity and susceptibility to problems," research analyst Prathima Bommakanti said. "Likewise, the need for test services is expected to increase as wireless networks continue to become more complicated."

The launch of long-term evolution (LTE) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) networks, in particular, is seen to increase the complexity of networks and their susceptibility to problems. With LTE and WiMAX operators expected by consumers to offer mobile broadband, video-on-demand and other high-speed services, the test services will be sorely tested. However, Frost & Sullivan said that with capital budgets remaining tight due to the economic downturn, SPs, NEMs, and small and large enterprises continue to delay their purchase orders.
