Stackpole Electronics Inc. has rolled out its 4watt axial leaded fusible wirewound SP3A resistors which have passed the UL1412 safety standard and received the "UL Recognized Component" status.

This series of resistors has a welded element that combines the outstanding surge handling characteristics associated with wirewound resistors, with the failsafe operation required by the UL1412 safety standard. The UL1412 safety standard was created to ensure that electronic components do not pose a fire or electrical shock hazard.

According to Stackpole, their proprietary fusible resistor design yields a reliable and repeatable fusing characteristic so that the part fails quickly, safely and without generating excess heat. This makes it suitable for protection of monitors, TV's and displays, appliances, HVAC monitoring and control systems, safety and security systems and other commercial and industrial power and control applications that typically require robust continuous power- and pulse-power handling in a circuit protection resistor.

The SP3A Series, which is priced from $0.18 to $0.25 each in tape and reel packaging of 500-piece quantities, adds to Stackpole's growing product lines of agency-approved resistors.
