100V power-efficient MOSFETs boast low on-resistance

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Ltd (AOS) has rolled out the AOT290L and AOT2918L, the first two in a new family of 100V MOSFETs that are designed for medium voltage primary-side power supply applications. The company claimed that the devices offer designers innovative processes to create efficient power supply solutions that meet strict requirements for green product design.

"With the introduction of these new products and technology, our medium voltage MOSFET product portfolio is further strengthened," said Mike Chang, president and CEO of AOS. "This development is strategically important to us as we strive to become a full-service power semiconductor solution provider. These products will allow us to expand our serviceable available markets, especially in the telecom, datacom and power supply segments."

The AOT290L offers an industry-leading figure of merit (RDS(ON) * Qg) of 243mOhm-nC that is 15 percent better than the leading competitor, the company asserted. AOS also offers a higher ohmic version with the AOT2918L and are available in TO-220 as well as in D2PAK green package options with 100 percent Rg and UIS testing.

"Designers of DC/DC converters aim to reduce power consumption by minimizing losses during conduction and switching," said Yalcin Bulut, VP of low voltage and medium voltage product lines at AOS. "Our new 100V MOSFETs are optimized to deliver both very low on-resistance and very low Qg in order to achieve overall high efficiency."
