Thick film resistor offers 1.1kW power rating

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. has unleashed a power thick film resistor that according to the company is the industry's first resistor in a compact 57 x 60mm package to offer 1.1kW power rating with heat sink temperature of 25C. The LPS1100 offers high-temperature derating performance and a broad range of resistance values, added the company.

The LPS1100 thick film resistor is non-inductive (less than 0.1?H) and provides a resistance range from 1? to 1.3k?. Designed for easy mounting to a heat sink, the device's compact footprint, low 25mm profile and low weight of 79g save valuable space to help designers reduce the size of their end products, described the company.

The LPS1100 comes in a compact 57 x 60mm package.

With its high power capabilities and high dielectric strength to 12kV RMS, the LPS1100 is intended for power supply, inverter, converter, HEV-EV battery management, and snubber, chopper, pre-charge, discharge, filtering and crowbar resistor applications. Typical end products will include windmill turbines, X-ray and oncology tables, trains and large UPS drives.

Thermal resistance for the LPS1100 resistor at rated power and 25C is 0.039C/W junction-to-case. The device features a temperature coefficient of 150ppm/C, tolerances from 1 to 10 percent, and an operating temperature from -55C to 200C. The resistor is compliant to RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU.

Samples and production quantities of the LPS1100 are available with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders.
