Broadcom Corp. has unveiled what it says are advanced G.fast capabilities for its BCM63138 gateway SoCs. According to the company, the G.fast digital subscriber line (DSL) standard that can support data rates in excess of 1Gb/s with 106MHz spectrum, expands Broadcom's telecom access portfolio to ensure carriers can deliver the fastest, most flexible and highest quality services to meet growing bandwidth and service needs.

Broadcom's BCM63138 high-performance device with G.fast for home gateways complements the BCM65200/900 central office (CO) family of SoCs and further extends Broadcom's broadband carrier access portfolio, including ADSL/VDSL/Vectoring, Gigabit Ethernet and enhanced LTE.

The BCM63138 also supports Gigabit dual-band concurrent WiFi, multiport Gigabit Ethernet and multiline VoIP, allowing residential customers to experience the highest LAN data rates throughout the entire home. Using a 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor plus additional offload engines and dedicated routing accelerator, Broadcom's BCM63138 maximises the capabilities offered by high-end customer premise equipment (CPE) devices such as home gateways. The device also fulfills a growing residential customer demand for high-end networked attached storage (NAS) with support for high performance NAS and hard drive connectivity and extends the deployment longevity of CPE equipment, indicated the company.

The Broadcom BCM63138 SoC is in volume production.
