Hexagon Metrology and Xylon International, specialists in X-ray and computed tomography (CT) for material testing, teamed up to provide innovative measurement capabilities required in production of complex components and assemblies.

The move was communicated during the run-up to the Control 2015, an industry meeting dedicated to quality control. According to Angus Taylor, CEO of Hexagon Metrology North America, the cooperation aims at developing innovative products for industrial markets.

"Our intention is to collaborate on new solutions for manufacturing by combining the strengths of Hexagon Metrologys measurement software and verification tools with Xylon Internationals advanced X-ray and CT inspection systems. These new solutions will provide cutting-edge measurement capabilities needed for the production of complex components and assemblies," he said.

Hexagon, Cylon

The cooperation between the Hamburg-based Xylon and Hexagon Metrology (Cobham, Surrey, UK) is designed to bring together the complementary skill sets of these two companies. Xylon has a reputation for its X-ray inspection systems; Hexagon is known for industrial metrology software solutions. The joint development activities aim at solutions in the segment of non-destructive testing (NDT) and the related test data processing for applications in R&D, quality assurance, process control, and process validation.

Technological advancements resulting from the cooperation will include the ability to make dimensional measurements directly on voxel data acquired by the Xylon CT systems. Users will benefit from the integration of the Hexagon Metrology measurement software into the overall Xylon CT workflow, merging smart CT operations with comprehensive measurement capabilities.

The companies will demonstrate first results at booth 2210, hall 3, at the Control 2015 (Stuttgart, Germany, May 5 through May 8, 2015).
