Integrated Device Technology Inc. (IDT) and Altera Corp. have revealed that they were able to combine IDT network communications solutions with Altera FPGAs and Altera IP cores to develop flexible Ethernet nodes that comply with ITU-T SyncE requirements. IDT's 82P33731 Synchronous Equipment Timing Source (SETS) for 10G-40G Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) was used alongside the Altera devices.

The 82P33731 claims to be a proven solution that can reduce risk and speed time to market for SyncE designs. It is geared for communications equipment demanding network-grade standards compliance and ultra-high performance.

The two companies collaborated to build and test an Altera Stratix V FPGA-based SyncE system design. The design implements Ethernet ports using the Altera 1G/10Gb Ethernet MAC core with the Altera 10GBASE-R PHY IP core and the Ethernet ports are synchronised by IDT's 82P33731. Testing demonstrates that the design meets 10G-40G Ethernet transmit jitter requirements and complies with ITU-T G.8262 option one and option two.

Results from the companies' testing are available from IDT.
