Apple and Samsung Electronics may never be friends again. After cutting its use of Samsung displays for all things 'i', it has now excluded the South Korean giant from a project to develop A7 application processors due for release early 2014. (Full story here.)

"Apple is sharing confidential data for its next A7 system-on-chip (SoC) with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). TSMC has begun ordering its contractors to supply equipment to produce Apples next processors using a finer 20-nanometer level processing technology," an executive at one of Samsungs local partners told the Korea Times.

Another official of a top-tier parts supplier said that Samsung has been investing heavily on its applications business so if it fails to secure Apple order for A7 chips then some of its system chip manufacturing lines will have to be shut down.
