Apple has filed a patent application for a system that would make it possible for a person to use a wireless gadget to place an order at a cafe or fast-food restaurant and pickup the order without waiting in line.

This is horse dung. Orders have been placed at restauarants for years by the use of wireless devices. Of course the pqatent could be more specific and still damaging to open commerce. Hopefully, the patent office will find prior art or define it as obvious since there is no real invention here.

I hope the patent office sees it as the obvious thing it is. However given their history and lack of ability to see the obvious I don't hold out much hope for common sense prevailing. My local electronics store has a similar system. You place a will call order and you can bypass the line when you get there.

This shows how pathetic the patent system became in our country. Obviousness and prior art mean nothing any more. Just pathetic.

This is poppy cock. I just could not believe that APPLE would go this low to make profit from collecting loyalty payments on such a non-invention. People have been paying ticket online/SMS to movies and other venues for ages.... what's the differences!?!?!

Perhaps it is a slap on Microsoft face which is going ahead with it's new aquisition of Telme to make voice activated reservations via phone. It is hard for me to even beleive that no one lese had filed a patent like this before.

my exact same thought... hehehe... unless, Apple's "system" comes with a confirmation ticket or something that has a time stamp as to when a customer should pick-up his/her order...
