The assertion that $9 for a 6" wafer is a major threat to thin film technology is unsupported by facts. $9 per 6" wafer means $0.04/sqcm, or $400/sqm. At 15% efficiency that is $2.67/W. Thin film manufacturer's target is well under 1$/W (which for cells alone - premodule level - First Solar has already claimed in production). Crystalline silicon has still a lot of cost reduction to reach $0.40/W for cells (and less than $1/W for modules).
