EE Times' Annual Salary & Opinion Survey found that while globalization has delivered tremendous opportunities to the electronics industry over the past two decades, it has cost many engineers in Europe, North America and other developed regions, a world of pain in terms of fewer job opportunities and lower wages.

I definitely agree that globalization has greatly reduced job security for American engineers and as they age, their salaries drop because of corporations hire more foregn engineers and hence force down the pay of the older American engineers, who lose bargaining power after layoffs. Ever since the excesses of the dot com era and the bust tthat ensued, American corporations have accelerated outsourcing and worst still, R&D to China, Asia, Taiwan and other countries. It is time that US corporations recognized their responsibilities as American entities.

If foreign born engineers are doing better in America than American engineers there is something wrong with American engineers. Wouldn't it be interesting to find out what it is? I'm surprised it was not a red flag for your crack team of reporters.

If anyone seems to believe that by attacking immigration or pleading for outsourcing operations shut downs is in anyway an answer... well they probably don't understand what is at stake here. The internationalism that corporations love is nothing more that a reflection of their knowledge of just how divided the working class is. As long as we continue to avoid the union of us who are that ones working for their profit we will never succeed to revert any negative tendencies that we are suffering now and for sure suffer more in the future. Or does anyone think that any EE in the world is so stupid to want to give his great work for less than Americans do? the point is that there is no leverage and divided as we are we'll have to continue taking it as it comes.
