The combined company would be the No.2 player in the power semiconductor category, with a strong focus on the automotive, industrial and smartphone end markets.

Design engineers basing their designs of particular semiconductor companies are subjected to sudden crises when a company is suddenly sold (in case of Fairchild Semi, it was expected as their motor control division was also sold off earlier this year)and some of the devices you based your design on, may not be continued by the aquirer.

Design engineers are subjected to crises when a company is suddenly sold off to another (in case of Fairchild Semi, however, it was not that sudden as their motor control devices were sold off to Spintrol earlier this year) company. Engineers ?base their designs on a particular family of devices and when an acquisition takes place, the buyer may or may not continue with that product line. This has happened to me a couple of times.
