IDC remains conservative on its 2013 PC sales forecast for Thailand. The market experienced a decline for the first time in 2012 and IDC predicts that the weak momentum will persist throughout 2013. Dwindling demand in mature provinces pushes vendors towards upcountry markets.

The growth momentum of smartphones, however, started picking up at the beginning of 2012 with consumers in the country spending over $800 million on smartphones in the past year, according to the latest GfK findings. Two in every five of the 2.87 million mobile handsets sold in the first four months of 2013 was a smartphone with much of the demand generated by the northeast region.
