Marvell Ethernet switch reference design enables increased port density

Claimed to be the industry's first 48-port Fast Ethernet plus four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch reference design, the Marvell RD-48370-48F4G offers double the port density of 1U 24FE+2GbE systems. The reference design is based on the company's highly integrated GalNet-2+ switch/PHY devices and Alaska Quad Gigabit Ethernet transceiver.

It provides OEMs the ability to develop high-performance Ethernet switch systems for LAN wiring closets, increasing network connections and efficiency for end-users.

The switch reference design is a full-featured Layer 2 Fast/Gigabit Ethernet switch targeted at enterprise workgroup LAN networks. It supports features including: full-wire-speed non-blocking switching performance; QoS based on both IEEE 802.1p and IETF DiffServ priority, providing support for high-fidelity multimedia and VoIP; IEEE 802.3ad Gigabit Ethernet port trunking, offering a standards-based approach to creating multi-Gigabit backbone communications; and 802.1Q VLANs for increased network security and manageability.

It also offers low operating power, fast time-to-market, and reduced development and production costs.
