The AX88172 high-performance and highly integrated controller supports USB 2.0 interface, as well as MII, which simplifies designing and implementing Fast Ethernet and HomePNA functions. It comes with an embedded 7K-by-16-bit SRAM.

The device can be used for both 10/100 Fast Ethernet functions that meet IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.3u standards. It likewise features full-duplex or half-duplex operation on Fast Ethernet.

The controller supports suspended mode and remote wake-up, as well as automatic loading of Ethernet ID, USB descriptors and adapter configurationsall from the EEPROM. It has an external PHY loopback diagnostic capability and an optional PHY power-down mode.

The chip comes in an 80-pin LQFP and operates at 12MHz and 25MHz from a 3.3V supply.
