The company's high-speed, high-density small form-factor pluggable (SFP) connector and cages are employed to interface copper or fiber-optic pluggable transceivers and cable assemblies to host equipment. The SFP system supports common design interface for use with multiple data transfer protocols such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband.

The system meets the requirements of standard GBIC products, with reduced size and increased data transfer rates of 2Gbps or above. Applications include network switches, routers, servers and storage devices.

Mounted on the host PCB and protected by a low-profile metal cage, the connector system is designed to guide and support the industry-compliant mating modules. Hot-swappable with a variety of fiber-optic transceivers, copper modules and patch cords, the design is contained within a single PCB. The system operates on 3V, 0.5A supply and temperatures from -400C to 850C.

The system's 20-position, 0.8mm-pitch surface-mount receptacle is made of UL 94V-0 high-temperature thermoplastic, plated in 305inch gold over nickel and solder feet within 0.15mm for coplanarity. A card-entry slot accepts 1mm-thick IC cards and alignment posts offer secure placement to the PCB. Standoffs are also provided.

The tin-plated copper alloy cage is offered in press-fit and solder-post options. Available in a single-piece kit or separate cover and base for various assembly processes, the cages include two-point spring contacts for high EMI grounding. A PCI version is also offered; it includes solder posts angled 10. The flexible design allows belly-to-belly placement, when two cages are mount on opposite sides of the PCB.
