Exar rolls out highly integrated octal T1/E1/J1 framer

The XRT84L38 low-power, highly integrated eight-channel framer offers customers dynamic features that support high-speed interfacing, faster path maintenance data access, and seamless connections to Exar's complimentary long-haul, short-haul LIUs and reference designs. The device suits T1/E1/J1 interfaces for multiplexers, switches, routers, and modems.

The chip has eight integrated T1/E1/J1 framers, which provide framing, error-detection and performance-monitoring functions in accordance with ANSI/ITU-T specifications. Each framer has its own framing synchronizer and transmit-receive slip buffers, and can be independently enabled or disabled as required by the system. The device supports framing protocols including SF, ESF, T1DM, SLC96, CRC-Multiframe and CAS-Multiframe, among others.

Each framer also contains a transmit and overhead data input port which permits data link terminal equipment direct access to the outbound T1/E1/J1 frames. The receive overhead output data port conversely allows data link terminal equipment direct access to the data link bits of the inbound frames.

The framer has extensive diagnostic and test functions including loop-backs, boundary scan, Psuedo Random Bit Sequence test pattern generation, performance monitoring, and Bit Error Rate counter.

The XRT84L38 is offered in a 388-pin BGA, and operates at 3.3V with 5V-tolerant I/Os over the industrial temperature range. In 1,000-piece quantities, pricing is at $69.84.
